Keith Flavin and Aidan Metcalfe had to be separated on a countback in tonight’s Youth (2) 50Kg final, Flavin taking the honours on accepted scores.
Adam Courtney, Kurt Walker, with a 16-8 win over Clonmel BC ace Jamie Lonergan, and John J. Nevin also emerged victorious.
Sean Higginson, meantime, held at 7-6 advantage over Victor Medveduic at the final bell of their featherweight final.
Clare’s Lee Sherlock lost out to Hugh Nevin as the Cavan BC collected their second Youth 2 title of the night in the ring, while John Stokes denied the St Francis BC their second title of the Championships.
Gerard Whitehouse, like Medveduic a former European Schoolboy Championships bronze medalist, racked up a 10-5 verdict over Dan McInerney.
The 70Kg battle of the McDonagh’s went to Jason at the expense of Paddy, while Micky Hart became the second Limerick boxer to win an Irish title on a double countback (Dom Sarsfield claimed a double countback win earlier today) at the expense of Patrick Gaffey.
John McDonnell and Owen F. Maughan claimed inside the distance victories in the final two finals of the 2012 Championships.
Fifty six Irish titles were won today.
