RUSSIA DOMINATE IN HUNGARY

by Webmaster on Monday, February 13th, 2012

Russia took home four gold medals from the Bocskai Memorial Cup in Hungary yesterday.

Vislan Dalkhayev, Dmitry Polyanskiy, Dmitriy Bivol and Nikita Ivanov finished on top of the podium in Debrecen.

Ivanov, who was beaten by Ireland’s Joe Ward in the 2011 European light-heavyweight final, beat China’s Fang Long Meng 17-10.   Ward beat Meng (9-2) when Ireland beat China in Wexford last year.

England also had a good tournament in Hungary, with Thomas Stalker, who Ray Moylette beat in the 2011 European final, and Anthony Joshua securing gold.

All of the nations taking part in the Bocskai Cup are preparing for their final Olympic qualifiers in their respective continents.

The European qualifier will take place in Turkey in April.

The Irish squad, who are in training camp at the Curragh in Kildare,  will have a further training camp in Germany next month and also take part in the Chemistry Cup Multi-Nations in Germany.
