Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:03AM The Refereeing and Judging Commission concentrated on the selection procedure for Officials at the London 2012 Olympic Games, as chairman Terry Smith explained:
''We aim to appoint 30 Officials for the Women's Youth and Junior Championships and 40 for the World Junior Championships. This gives us 70 officials from whom 60 will be shortlisted for the World Championships in Baku in September. From the 60 in Baku we hope to take forward 50 for a workshop in Cardiff and, one week later, the test event in London. From those 50 we will be looking to select 36 officials and two reserves for the London 2012 Olympic Games.''
The Refereeing and Judging Commission also has plans to increase the intake of AIBA officials at the grass-roots level in other words so-called one star officials. ''There are hundreds of Officials within our member federations who are ready to qualify as one-star officials,'' Smith added.
