Flyweight Chris Phelan and middleweight Jason Quigley both recorded wins in Lithuania tonight…….
Chris Phelan and Jason Quigley advanced to the finals of the Algirdas Socikas Multi-Nations following a double over the host nation in Lithuania tonight.
But Eric Donovan, Philip Sutcliffe and John Joe Joyce bowed after last-four reversals in Kaunas.
Ken Egan is also out after picking up a neck injury in Thursday’s win over Danish light-heavyweight Jim Anderson.
Egan was due to meet Aussie 2012 Olympian Damien Hooper – who he beat at the Olympic Test Event in London last December – in tonight’s 81kg semi-final but withdrew because of the injury.
Phelan and Quigley recorded 10-6 and 11-3 decisions over Lithuanian pair of Marius Vysniaukas and Mantas Balciauskas to book their tickets into Saturday’s flyweight and middleweight finals.
Sutcliffe and Joyce lost to Australian 2012 Olympians Jeff Horne and Cameron Hammond and St Michael’s Athy lightweight Donovan was beaten 11-7 by Russia’s Ruslan Kamilov.
Ireland will be taking home at least two silver and four bronze medals from the tournament.
