The Irish Junior side lost out to hosts Russia in the Veles Cup Round Robin on Wednesday in Russia…..

 

 

Ireland lost out to hosts Russia on Day 2 of the Veles Cup Round Robin Junior tournament in the Oblast region of Russia yesterday.

Team captain Luke Thomas, Ryan Green, Gary Cully and Jason Hughes recorded victories for Ireland on the day, while the Garry Cully versus Kirill Kuznetsov results is pending.

Ryan Green got Ireland off to a winning start against the hosts, a countback victory seeing the Oakleaf BC pin-weight’s hand raised in victory.

But 2012 European silver medalist Jason McKay and Colm Molloy were edged out by one-point margins in the next two bouts. Mike McDonagh also lost a tight encounter.

Irish skipper Thomas, who boxes out of the Watergrasshill BC in Cork,  chalked up a convincing win over Vitally Bachmatov and Ryston BC stand out  Hughes stopped Abubbakar Kadyrov in round two.

Ireland drew 6-6 with the USA on Tuesday and will meet Germany in their final match.

Russia, who’ve beat Germany 13-0, will face the USA.
