SIX STAR SHOW FROM ELITES IN FINLAND (UPDATED)

Ireland’s Elite boxers record six wins from six at the Elite Tammer tournament in Finland……..

Ken Egan, Conrad Cummings and David Oliver Joyce completed a six-star show for Ireland with another three semi-finals wins at the Elite Tammer Multi Nations in Tampere, Finland this afternoon.
 
Six Irish boxers – the highest representation at the 19-nation tournament – will be in action in Sunday’s finals in Tampere.
 
Egan saw of Finnish light-heavyweight Niklas Rasanen by a 10-point margin today, and Joyce had nine points to spare over Kazakhstan’s Spatay Yegembayev in the lightweight class.
 
Cummings earned an impressive 23-16 decision over Ivan Klimashkin of Russia to set up a middleweight final with Henri Kekalainen of Finland.
 
In the earlier session, Ross Hickey, John Joe Joyce and Con Sheehan completed the first hat-trick hat-trick of semi-final wins for Ireland.
 
Hickey got Ireland off to a winning start at the 19-nation tournament with a 15-10 victory over Batyrzhan Jukembayev.
 
The Grangecon BC ace was 7-5 in front going into the final frame against the tough Kazakh light-welterweight.
 
Beijing 2008 Olympian Joyce followed that up with Ireland’s second victory of the day over Souleymane Cissokho of France.
 
Cissokho was trailing by two points going into the third round of this welterweight clash before he was retired by his corner after Joyce started pressing home his advantage.
 
Tipperary super-heavyweight Sheehan completed the hat-trick with a well deserved 12-8 decision over Russia’s Maxim Babanin.
 
He’ll now meet England’s Joe Joyce in Sunday’s final.
