IRELAND BEAT WALES IN BALLINA

Ireland recorded an impressive win over a talented Wales side in Ballina, Co. Mayo on Saturday…..

Ireland recorded a convincing 10-3 win over Wales in last night’s Schoolboy/Youth international meeting at the Downhill House Hotel in Ballina, Co. Mayo.

Gary Bittles, Cathal Myres, Thomas McCarthy, Dominic Bradley, Calvin Turner, Jamie Conroy, Andrew Harkin, Jordan Myres, Lewis Crocker and Conor Vint had their hands raised in victory.

Five-time Irish champion Conroy was celebrating on the double as he also scooped the Best Home Boxer Award.

Evan Jones of Wales, who was involved in the contest of the night with Dominic Bradley, claimed the Best Away Boxer Award.

Bittles, Myres, McCarthy, Bradley and Turner fired Ireland into a 5-0 lead, but Wales pulled one back when Curtis Boden edged out Castlebar’s Aaron Daley by a single point in a top class three-rounder.

Conroy recorded an impressive decision over Thomas Lewis, while Henry Price earned a 10-7 verdict over talented Limerick light-flyweight Jason Harty as the hosts and visitors traded victories in the 45kg and 49kg classes.

Donegal ace Harkin – with the biggest winning margin of the night – ran away with his 50kg duel with James Price, but Mayo’s Colm Quinn was shaded 14-13 by Jason Sillet in another duel which could have gone either way.

 

 

The Inishfree BC in Sligo celebrated a double last evening as brothers Cathal Myres and Jordan Myres had their hands raised in triumph – both Myres’ winning by three-point margins.

Lewis Crocker and Conor Vint completed an impressive evening for the home side with victories in the last two contests of the night.

Martin Collins and Martin McDonagh, both of th Ballina BC, also celebrated wins on Saturday.

Saturday’s international was hosted by the IABA in association with the Ballina Boxing Club and kindly sponsored by the award winning Downhill House Hotel.

“It was a fantastic night all round with some very evenly matched contests throughout the evening, said Joe Lavelle, Treasurer with the Ballina BC.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support on what was a brilliant night for the club.”

Joe Lavelle also thanked IABA Registrar Stephen Connolly, who was Chief Official last night, for all his help and assistance.
