Ireland will be taking home three bronze medals from the 17th Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt/Oder…….
Keith Flavin and Chris Nevin had to settle for bronze at the 17th Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany tonight after losing out on identical scorelines.
Flavin can consider himself very unlucky to have been adjudged to have lost 12-10 to Russian light-flyweight Yusup Gazaev, a bout which Irish coach Billy McClean reckoned the Kilkenny teenager won.
Nevin was aslo beaten 12-10, France’s Eilas Friha getting the nod by a two point margin.
Hughie Nevin bowed out at the last-four stage following a 17-10 reversal to Russian lightweight Khuseyns Baysangurov.
All three boxers will be presented with their bronze medals after Sunday’s finals at the 22-nation tournament.
The Irish team are building up toward Octobers AIBA World Youth Championships in Thailand.
