2012 AIBA WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2012 AIBA World Youth Championships will not be held in Thailand.

The Championships was due to be hosted in Bangkok in October. However, AIBA have confirmed that the tournament will not take place in the Thai capital.

A new venue is expected to be confirmed shortly.

Ireland has a proud record at World Youth level, having taken home two gold, two silver and two bronze medals from the 2010 and 2008 editions in Azerbaijan and Mexico.

Joe Ward and Ray Moylette, the current European champions, claimed gold in Baku and Guadalajara, while Ryan Burnett, Jamie Kavanagh, Tommy McCarthy and Davey Joe Joyce took home silver and bronze.

The Irish Youth suad stook part in the recent 17th Brandenburg Youth Cup in Germany as part of their preparations for the World Youth Championships.

Keith Flavin, Chris Nevin and Hughie Nevin claimed three bronze medals from the Brandenburg Youth Cup in Frankfurt/Oder.

Irish coaches Billy McClean and Tom Hayes were working Ireland’s corner at the Brandenburg Cup.
